150 More Churches Committed to Starting Alpha in Nicaragua
...and 1200 More Waiting to be Trained

On March 23 and 24 a team from Carmel, Indiana traveled to Leon, Nicaragua and conducted their 3rd GAT event in Nicaragua for 178 church leaders representing over 150 churches. Rick Gilmore, Regional Director for Alpha Indiana, and Jeff Scott, Alpha Advisor for Nicaragua conducted the 2 days of training. Over 150 churches are now committed to starting Alpha courses in their churches. In the past 16 months three GAT events have taken place and over 400 churches have been trained to run the Alpha Course. Included in this group was perhaps the oldest pastor in the world to run an Alpha course. This Pastor is 100 years old and was excited about returning and starting Alpha in his church!
At the conclusion of the training all those who wanted to return to their churches and start an Alpha course were asked to stand and Rick and Jeff prayed a blessing upon them. All but a few people jumped to their feet with enthusiasm.
Not only was the GAT a huge success but Rick and Jeff had many meetings with other church leaders who want to start the Alpha course in their churches. Even the translators have requested training for their churches. A pastor from Costa Rica and his missionary team were staying in the same guest house in Managua and is now interested in starting the Alpha course in his church!
Nicaragua is on fire for God and for Alpha. and the interest in Alpha is immense. Ed Perry, Relationship Manager for Nicaragua from Alpha International has a list of over 1,200 churches who want to be trained for to run Alpha courses in Nicaragua. Verbo Church, which is the “Willow Creek” of Nicaragua requested help training all of their churches in Nicaragua. Jeff and Sue Scott will return in May along with Edto conduct a GAT for Verbo. Interest is also stirring with the Bishop for the Catholic Churches in Nicaragua and they are desiring more information and training so they can start Alpha in the Catholic churches.
During the week the team also met with churches who are currently running Alpha Courses. Pastor Oscar Cruze has a church of 250 people in Managua. Pastor Oscar attended a previous GAT and in his first Alpha Course he doubled the size of his church to over 500 people. He is now seeking a way to expand his church building to accommodate the growth.

Pastor Belcezar Gonzolezm also attended the first GAT in Managua in January of 2009. His first Alpha Course included over 200 people from outside his church and during the teaching of “Why Did Jesus Die” 26 people came forward during the teaching to accept Christ. Pastor Belcezar has 19 churches located throughout Nicaragua and he has requested Alpha training for all of his Pastors.
Nicaragua is ripe for the harvest, and God is doing a powerful work through Alpha. Would your church be interested in leading a GAT in Nicaragua? The training materials are prepared for you and people are waiting to be trained. if you love Alpha and have run the course at your church God can use you to meet the huge need for training in Nicaragua.
