Inspiration for reaching seekers this Christmas.
Alpha pastor Derek Rust often reminds us that when we make room for seekers in our hearts, we make room for them in our midst. Knowing that we will have more guests at the various Christmas events is a great motivator to prayerfully consider how to welcome them.
Here are a few suggestions:
- Have invitations to your winter course available at Advent services or children's programs.
- Make the ending of your fall course into a "Why Christmas?" party. Go all out with yummy treats and decorations - but have a Christmas twist using the "Why Christmas?" DVD or live talk (this is the Christmas version of the "Is there More to Life?" talk). Because people are naturally thinking about the season, they may be more inclined to come to a party with this theme.
- Have Why Christmas? booklets on hand to give away as needed.
- Select a person who has come to Christ to briefly share their testimony and invite people to the next course. It is so powerful to hear someone tell their story, "...A year ago I did not have a relationship with God, but now I do..." or words to that effect. This can literally be what gives someone the nudge to come on the next course.
- Consider giving The Breakthrough book away. It is an easy to read book with food for thought about life, faith and there is a chapter on the Alpha course.
