Frequently Asked Questions: Team Alpha

Welcome aboard Team Alpha!  Here are some answers to Frequently Asked Questions regarding Team Alpha, especially for the Twin Cities regional races and churches.

1. Is an Alpha group from a church welcome to participate in any race?

We have pre-selected two races for several reasons:
  • To concentrate as many TEAM ALPHA participants as possible in just two races to make a bigger impact in the community.  The more RED TEAM ALPHA shirts there are in any one race, the more we will stand out!
  • These two races are not tied to any specific fund raising for other causes, which makes it easy for TEAM ALPHA participants to freely raise funds and find sponsors without interferring with a cause-related race (eg, "Race for the Cure").
  • The TEAM ALPHA website is set up by the National Alpha team and only includes these two pre-selected races.

2.  How do I sign up to participate in TEAM ALPHA?

Go to our website and follow the steps--it's quite easy!  Click HERE.

3. How do we sign up together, as a "team" from our church?

Go the our website and follow the steps under 2. Coordinate a Group

4.  When we sign up at Alpha.org, and write our team name in, will we already be signed up for the race we chose?
No, each participant registers for their race individually.
5.  Are these races, family friendly?  Can you walk/run with your family?  Are kids allowed? Can you bring a stroller?

Each event we picked has a 5K run/walk component and you should be able to bring family members. But to be sure—check the website of each/ any race that you are considering.

 6.  Do we buy the t-shirt for the actual race we are participating in, or do we buy a Alpha t-shirt?

Some races give finishers a t-shirt when they complete the race. Our Team Alpha participants will get their t-shirts before the race (mailed from Alpha USA) and we want each participant to wear it during the race so that we get the Alpha name in front of people! This is a key way to raise visibility for the Alpha course in the region and will help lift up the fall Alpha Invitation that will launch this August.

7.  Can you run in a race, wearing your Alpha jersey, but not raise any pledges?

The prime purpose of Team Alpha is to promote the Alpha course through increased visibility and to help raise money to buy advertising. For that reason, we encourage all participants to find some sponsors to support their run. The personal fund raising webpage is a tool that makes this very easy and non-threatening.  Participants can use email, FaceBook, Twitter, etc. to send their friends to their fundraising page and invite them to participate. From there, friends and family can pledge directly online!  You never have to chase them down to collect funds!

8.  Can someone who is unsuccessful at any fund raising still run, wearing the jersey?

Yes.  We don't want to discourage anyone from participating.  Give it your best shot and see where things come out!
