Keeping Jesus in Christmas
What are some ways we can creatively invite people to our Alpha course and tell our community about Jesus during the Christmas holiday season?
Many people use the talk Why Christmas? at the Celebration Dinner at the end of their fall Alpha course. Pastor Mike Woodruff at Christ Church, Lake Forest, IL is planning to use this talk in a unique way this year.
They plan to host an event titled Why Christmas? The target audience will be guests of their recent Alpha graduates. It will also be open to the congregation as a venue for them to introduce Alpha to their friends. The bulletin insert will be worded:
“I will be giving a 30 minute talk that looks behind the myths and traditions and puts Christmas in perspective. (It may be different than you think!) The night will also feature dessert and music. (Think of this as an Alpha prequel - that is, a nice, low-key event perfect for seekers, skeptics and those new to the faith.) In fact, this event is being specifically designed for you to bring friends, and a RSVP is required. If you are planning on joining us please contact us at... Pastor Mike
The booklet Why Christmas? (a Christmas version of Why Jesus?) will be available along with information about the upcoming Alpha course.
