Covering Weekend Cost
There are guests on our course who can't afford to come to the Alpha Weekend. What should we do?
We don't want to anyone to miss the Alpha Weekend for financial reasons. Many Alpha courses charge guests what it costs to hold the Weekend, but also offer to financially help those who can't afford it. One pastor suggests that if someone cannot pay the whole suggested cost that they at least cover the cost of the food. Most people are able to do that.
Others have found that taking an offering at some point during the Weekend is a way to offset those who were not able to pay the full amount. This is a faith test for everyone and it is amazing how generous these offerings can be. It also teaches the important Christian principle that those who can afford to pay should help those who can't.
One church has a "pay if you can - pay when you can" policy, and guests can decide for themselves whether they want a scholarship or pay the amount in installments. This church has been surprised at how many guests have voluntarily paid installments and have even come back months later so they could pay their final installment. |
